How Director Mei Feng directed the actors on set

How was casting done, and how did you direct the actors on set?

Director Mei Feng: Li Xian (Liang Zhengwen) and Chun Xia (Mao Zhen) were settled relative- ly early. I was impressed with Chun Xia's performance in Port of Call, and I found Li Xian quite fitting for the char- acter after watching him in Tientsin Mystic. It wasn't just for his handsome looks, but the whole presence, which exudes a healthy glow of natural and youthful masculinity that is instinctive and innate. They are all professional actors who are very aware of the chal- lenges in their work and were highly cooperative on set. We only made mi- nor adjustments to achieve the exact precision. I don't talk about the inner mind of the characters with the actors. It is fine as they long as they achieve an ideal state. I want them to use how they speak in real life and tune that to fit into the film. The true color and aura of each character is unique and irreplaceable. It was the same in Mr. No Problem. Deciding to cast a certain individual was more important.
