In order to prepare for the role of Guo De You in Tientsin Mystic, Li Xian entered the film crew for training four months in advance, learned swimming and snorkeling. Due to the filming of this drama with a lot of underwater scenes, he became addicted to diving. Therefore, after finishing the filming of Tientsin Mystic, he went to Phuket, Thailand to learn diving. He has passed the AOW diving certificate.

The OW and AOW coach of Li Xian in Phuket said that Li Xian contacted them to sign up by himself and they didn’t know that he was a star. On the second day of OW course, Li Xian got in a dangerous accident when his snorkeler was out of work at the depth of about 30 meters. Despite being so terrified, he still found a solution in a second. Instead of swimming up to the surface, he used his last breath to swim down to the coach’s position and gave a breathless gesture to the coach. Li Xian saved himself and decided to take a tattoo of the Ukiyo-e wave on his leg for the memory of this accident. Despite facing danger, he still likes diving because he loves to “dive into the deep blue sea, and see the world from another angle” (Li Xian).
